Hello!
And welcome to my website.
Hello!
I am Geraldine, and yes, I’m a quilter, but I’m also a Trinidadian born woman, who lives in St Albans with her husband and 2 young adults. For me quilting is more than cutting up good fabrics, only to stitch them back together.
For me the creation of a quilt is about – a design, a concept, an idea which symbolises a conveyance of love, a celebration of a life lived, the joy of a birth, an anniversary, etc. The choice of fabrics, reflects the tone, mode and overall effect of the finished quilt. Perhaps there is a secret message in the quilt that only myself, the client and the person receiving the quilt know the significance of. Or a message embroidered onto the back of the quilt, giving it a stronger personalisation.
I take the time to harness my client’s vision. No two pieces I make are the same; each is individual and unique.
Why a quilt?
Is this to mark the birth of a grandchild? Is it to preserve a beloved aunt’s wild 1960s original skirts and jackets? Is it to send a child off to Uni by having them be enveloped in the warmth of childhood t-shirt memories? We all want to preserve the special moments of our lives and I always aim to help my clients do that in a personal and unique way that creates joy for us both.
Commissions
Requesting a quilt is very uncomplicated process. We begin by us chatting about the type of quilt you would like and what the occasion is. Getting information about the person(s) is very important. That way I know what colours, fabrics and tones they like. The quilt pattern of the quilt is also very important. Once I have this information, I go away and research fabrics and quilt patterns that would be suitable. I send images of these to you and we agree on the fabrics and pattern. Once that's confirmed I let you know the costs and the time it will take me.
When you give me the go ahead I request payment for the fabrics. When the quilt is finished it is laundered and sent to you via first class registered mail. I will then give you the final payment request. You do have the option of paying in instalments.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
